Bursitis is an inflammatory condition that occurs as a result of inflammation of the bursae in the joint area. This leads to swelling and pain in the affected area.
For the diagnosis of bursitis, the doctor examines the patient and may also prescribe X-rays or ultrasound to determine the degree of inflammation.
Treatment of bursitis may include the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, injections, and in some cases, surgical intervention.
The doctor treating bursitis is called a rheumatologist.
