Heart premature contraction, also known as premature heartbeat, is a rhythm disturbance of the heart contractions in which individual cells of the heart muscle start contracting earlier than they do in the normal rhythm. This can lead to arrhythmia, or an irregular heartbeat.
Premature heartbeats may be triggered by stress, alcohol consumption, lack of sleep, excessive caffeine intake, or the presence of other heart conditions.
Diagnosing premature heartbeats may require an ECG, Holter monitoring, echocardiography, MRI, or CT scan of the heart.
Treatment may include medication to restore the heart's rhythm, lifestyle changes and addressing risk factors, and in some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.
Consult a cardiologist for the diagnosis and treatment of premature heartbeats.
