Vasoconstrictor drug for local use in ENT practice.
Alpha-adrenomimetik from the group of imidazoline derivatives. In low concentrations acts on a2-adrenoreceptors, in high concentrations, has an effect on a1-adrenoreceptors. When applied topically causes a narrowing of the blood vessels, which leads to a decrease in edema and hyperemia of the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx and a decrease in the amount of discharge.
Against the background of Galazolin's use, the nasal passages, the openings of the sinuses and the Eustachian tube are restored.
When applied topically at therapeutic concentrations does not irritate the nasal mucosa, does not cause hyperemia.
The effect of the drug begins after 5-10 minutes and lasts for 5-6 hours, after which the narrowing of the vessels lasts up to 8-12 hours.
When using the drug in the recommended doses, xylometazoline is practically not subjected to systemic absorption, in connection with this, there are no data on the pharmacokinetics of Galazolin.
- acute rhinitis (viral, bacterial, allergic);
- sinusitis;
- Eustachitis;
- average otitis.
Galazolin in the form of drops and gel 0.05% prescribed children aged 2 to 6 years 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times/day.
Galazolin in the form of drops and gel 0.1% prescribed adults and children over 6 years 2-3 drops in each nostril 2-3 times/day.
Do not use the drug more than 3 times/day. The course of treatment is no more than 3-5 days. The maximum duration of treatment is 2 weeks.
Local reactions: sometimes - burning, dryness of the nasal mucosa, sneezing; rarely, reactive hyperemia (a strongly pronounced feeling of nasal congestion after the effect of the drug is used).
Other: sometimes with a local overdose - tachycardia, increased blood pressure; very rarely - anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, headache, nausea.
- increased intraocular pressure;
- angle-closure glaucoma;
- atrophic rhinitis;
- arterial hypertension;
- pronounced atherosclerosis;
- tachycardia;
- hyperthyroidism;
- diabetes;
- pheochromocytoma;
- simultaneous administration of MAO inhibitors and a period of 14 days after the end of their use;
- Hypersensitivity to the drug.
The drug should be used only after assessing the risk/benefit ratio for the fetus and mother.
It is not allowed to exceed the recommended dose during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).
Prolonged use of the drug leads to a weakening of its action, the development of atrophy of the nasal mucosa and reactive hyperemia with rhinitis medication.
Influence on ability to drive motor transport and control mechanisms
After prolonged use of cold remedies containing xylometazoline, in doses exceeding the recommended, it is impossible to exclude a general effect on the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system. In these cases, the ability to drive vehicles or equipment may be reduced.
Symptoms: in case of accidental ingestion of the drug (more often in children), tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, confusion are noted.
Treatment: conduct symptomatic therapy.
With simultaneous use of xylometazoline (overdose or accidental ingestion) with tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors (including prior to the use of xylometazoline) an increase in blood pressure is noted.
The drug should be stored in a dark place at a temperature of 15 ° to 25 ° C, out of reach of children. Shelf life - 4 years.
