What is Genital Herpes?

Description of the disease

Genital herpes is a viral infectious disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. It is transmitted through sexual contact and causes the formation of painful blisters on the genital organs.

Classification

Symptoms

  • Painful tingling blisters on the genital organs

Causes

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2, which is transmitted through sexual contact.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based on clinical manifestations, results of laboratory tests (PCR diagnostics, immunofluorescence method), and examination of blood serum for the presence of antibodies to the virus.

Treatment

  • Use of antiviral drugs (acyclovir, valacyclovir, famciclovir)
  • Use of anti-inflammatory agents
  • Use of analgesics

Prevention

Use of condoms, limiting the number of sexual partners, and regular medical check-ups.
