What is Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)?

Description of the condition

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition in which the veins do not function properly, leading to inadequate blood flow in the lower extremities. This results in swelling, pain, and in some cases the development of skin ulcers.

Causes

Treatment of CVI includes wearing compression stockings, taking medication, physiotherapy, and in some cases, surgical intervention.

Preventing CVI includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle, controlling weight, engaging in active physical activity, and avoiding prolonged standing or sitting.
