Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by the enlargement of capillaries and blood vessels, leading to the appearance of red patches on the skin. The condition usually manifests on the face, especially in the areas of the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin.
The causes of rosacea may be related to genetic factors, hormonal changes, exposure to external aggressive factors, alcohol, spicy and hot foods.
The diagnosis is made by a dermatologist based on a skin examination and patient evaluation. Sometimes, special tests may be required (for example, dermatoscopy).
Treating rosacea involves the use of topical medications, phototherapy procedures, ozone therapy, and laser coagulation.
