Elbow bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa in the elbow area. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac under the skin that protects the joint from injury. Inflammation of the bursa can cause pain and limited mobility of the elbow joint.
Elbow bursitis can be caused by injury, infection, repetitive mechanical stress on the elbow joint (e.g. in workers whose activities involve repetitive hand movements), rheumatic diseases, and other reasons.
To diagnose elbow bursitis, the doctor performs an examination, assesses symptoms, and may prescribe additional diagnostic methods - ultrasound, X-ray, etc.
Treatment of elbow bursitis may include the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, therapeutic massage, if necessary - aspiration of the bursa or surgical intervention.
To prevent elbow bursitis, it is recommended to avoid overuse of the arm and frequent repetitive movements, use protective equipment during sports or work, maintain good posture, and strengthen the arm muscles.
Elbow bursitis is treated by traumatologists, orthopedists, rheumatologists, and rehabilitation specialists.
