What is Uterine Prolapse?
Description of the condition:
Uterine prolapse is a condition in which the uterus begins to descend downward into the vaginal cavity. This can occur due to the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments that hold the uterus in its upper position.
Classification:
1st degree uterine prolapse - the uterus descends slightly and may be unnoticed by the woman.
2nd degree uterine prolapse - the uterus is sufficiently descended to cause discomfort and other symptoms.
3rd degree uterine prolapse - the uterus descends so low that it becomes visible from the vagina.
Symptoms:
Feeling of heaviness in the pelvis
Pain in the lower abdomen or lower back
Feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder
Changes in the menstrual cycle
Causes:
Childbirth and childbirth injuries
