Description of the Condition

Inguinal hernia is the protrusion of internal organs through weak areas in the abdominal wall in the groin area.

  • Direct inguinal hernia
  • Indirect inguinal hernia

Symptoms

Painful bulge in the groin area, worsened by physical exertion, sensation of heaviness and pressure in the inguinal area.

Causes

Weakening of the abdominal wall muscles, excessive physical exertion, genetic predisposition.

Diagnosis

Medical examination, ultrasound, X-ray.

Treatment

Surgical removal of the hernia, but in small sizes conservative treatment is sometimes possible.

Prevention

Strengthening of the abdominal wall muscles, avoiding heavy physical exertion, weight control.
