Pleurisy is inflammation of the inner (visceral) or outer (parietal) pleura, which covers the lungs and lines the inside of the chest cavity. This condition can cause painful symptoms and may require medical intervention.
Pleurisy can be caused by infection, injury, tumor, or autoimmune disease. Harmful habits, such as smoking, can also increase the risk of developing pleurisy.
The diagnosis of pleurisy is usually based on a medical examination, medical history, and the results of additional tests, such as chest X-ray, CT or MRI.
Treatment for pleurisy depends on its cause, but may include taking anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, draining the pleural cavity, or even surgical intervention.
To prevent pleurisy, it is recommended to refrain from smoking, take care of your health, avoid contact with infections, and seek medical help promptly if symptoms of breathing problems occur.
Pleurisy is treated by a therapist or pulmonologist.
