A horseshoe kidney is a congenital anomaly in which the kidney has a horseshoe or U-shaped form. It can cause various problems with the urinary system.
Symptoms may include pain in the lumbar region, frequent urinary tract infections, and urinary retention.
The causes of this anomaly are not fully understood, but it is believed that genetic and environmental factors may play a role.
Diagnosis is carried out using ultrasound, CT and MRI of the pelvic organs and kidneys.
Treatment may include conservative methods such as antibiotic therapy, or surgical intervention to correct the anomaly.
Since the causes of horseshoe kidney development are unknown, specific preventive measures are absent.
