What is Varicocele?

Description of the disease

Varicocele is the enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, leading to disrupted blood flow.

Classification

  • By the degree of vein enlargement: 1, 2, 3
  • By severity: I, II, III

Symptoms

  • Pain or discomfort in the scrotum
  • Swelling of the scrotum
  • Visible vein network

Causes

The exact causes of varicocele are unknown, but it is believed to be related to dysfunction of the valves within the veins of the scrotum.

Diagnosis

Ultrasound examination of the scrotum is used for diagnosing varicocele.

Treatment

In cases of severe symptoms or infertility, surgical intervention called varicocelectomy is recommended.

Prevention

Preventing varicocele involves wearing supportive underwear and avoiding overheating of the scrotum.

Physician

Urologists or andrologists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of varicocele.
