What is Foot Dislocation?

Description of the condition

Foot dislocation is a condition in which the bones in the foot are displaced from the joint, usually due to trauma or excessive stress on the joint.

Classification

  • Complete dislocation - the bone completely comes out of the joint
  • Partial dislocation - the bone comes out only partially

Symptoms

Severe pain, swelling, bruising, inability to stand on the foot, change in the shape of the foot

Causes

Trauma, excessive stress on the joint during sports activities, heavy physical labor

Diagnosis

The doctor performs an examination and may prescribe X-rays or MRI to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment

The doctor will relocate the bone into the joint, may prescribe wearing a cast or splint, physical therapy, rehabilitation

Prevention

Avoid excessive stress on the foot, wear proper and comfortable footwear, strengthen foot muscles
